May 4th 2025 is International Firefighters Day. On the first Sunday in May (4th) at noon fire departments are encouraged to sounds off in respect of past firefighters.
This tradition started in 2002 when the inaugural "sound off" was conducted as a reflection of the sacrifice's and commitments of firefighters world wide. Due to the amount of support received around the sound off in 2002, there is now an annual sound off on the first Sunday of each May.
How to correctly carry out a sound off:
Sound off your stations fire whistle for 30 seconds, followed by a minute of silence in memory of, and respect for, all firefighters who have passed in the line of duty or passed on before us.
